I feel like I am being taxed too much. What is the normal tax rate in Australia?

  • You may have heard about the introduction of the new backpacker tax. This is still relatively new here in Australia and at the moment it is at the employer’s discretion if they register to tax at this rate.
  • If you are being taxed under the backpacker tax then you will be taxed at 15% of your income.
  • If your employer has not registered for this then your tax withholding rate can vary between 15-32% depending on your income.
