Just outside Mission Beach is Charley’s Chocolate. At the foot of Mt Edna, it is set in 400 acres of rainforests, creeks and lush pasture. Here they grow cocoa trees and make chocolate.
You’ll get to see and taste how chocolate gets from tree to bar. Start with a look at the history of cocoa from over 3000 years ago. From there, you’ll take the easy walk over to the commercial cocoa tree plantation. Here you’ll learn how wire trellising is used to make the trees cyclone proof, you’ll see how the tiny flowers are pollinated, check out the cocoa pods and take a look at the 13 stages of chocolate production
After seeing how chocolate is made, you’ll get the opportunity to try some of the ingredients and, of course, taste the final product.
Enjoy Dunk Island the way nature intended. Glide along the surface of the water and experience the sea turtles and rays swimming past while you enjoy the views of the coral reef. You’ll visit the unspoilt beaches within the National Park with a spectacular tropical rainforest backing.
This easy paddle across to Dunk Island will start in South Mission Beach. Along the way you may even see some dolphins or turtles. You’ll get to stop at a nearby island for homemade snack before continuing to Dunk Island to explore its beautiful coastline.
